 
Embracing Tantra as a Teenager
Young people are encouraged to embrace tantric principles from the beginning. Tantra is not something outside of a person but part of the great human design. Tantric potential exists within each individual, whether they access it within themselves or not is a different matter. It is the conviction of the LLU that the principles of Tantra and its application to sexuality should be taught as a basic education in schools.
Young people are very receptive to tantric teachings because they are more innocent and closer to their nature. The sexual conditioning and sexual ego has not yet had time to develop, as in the case of adults who have more 'experience', and who feel easily threatened by overt sexual guidance.
Before teenagers take on the sexuality of adults they should to be introduced to Tantric principles, and begin to apply these at the outset of sexual expression. Doings so will allow sexuality to develop as positive loving expression, bypassing the disillusionment and destructiveness that will often accompany sexual life at a later stage, as frequently experienced by adults.
Fortunately we have had young couples participate in our Making Love Retreats (ages 18-25), and their response to the Tantric input is overwhelmingly positive. They share with us what a great relief it is to let go of the 'education' they unconsciously received through advertising, films, pornography etc. where the emphasis is on excitement, stimulation, sensation and orgasm. They tell us that already (at this early age) sex is beginning to feel oppressive, strangling their joy of it, something to be avoided rather than to be embraced heartfully.
On the final day of participating in our Making Love Retreat, parents frequently come up to us to ask if we teach teenagers the information we have shared with them during the 7 days. With the new Tantric orientation the parents have a deep wish that their children do not get tangled up in the web of sexual confusion which has been the source of so much unhappiness in their own lives.
For some years we have been searching for a couple with the appropriate format for a tantric orientation for teenagers. One that will not involve sexual activity, but give a tantric perspective of the union between male/female bodies, and thereby put sexual expression into an intelligent creative perspective.
Fortunately the right couple with the right format has come forward, so we are delighted to announce that there will be a Teenager Summer Camp in August 2006. (see ‘summercamp’ on the menu )
